	Ottawa-Carleton Algebra Week September 13-21, 2008
Carleton University and the University of Ottawa Organizers: Erhard Neher (University of Ottawa) and Benjamin Steinberg (Carleton University)

Overview

The traditional Algebra Days in Ottawa, alternating between Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, will expand this year to an Algebra Week: There will be two Algebra Days, one at Carleton University (September 13) and one at the University of Ottawa (September 19-21).

• E. Zelmanov, CRM-University of Ottawa Distinguished Lecture, Asymptotic properties of finite groups and finite dimensional algebras (Video, Slides)

The Algebra Day at Carleton University ( (September 13) is devoted to associative algebras. The speakers are:

Osamu Iyama (Nagoya University)
Bernhard Keller (Université Denis Diderot - Paris VII)
Claus Ringel (Universität Bielefeld)
Paul Smith (University of Washington)

The Algebra Day at the University of Ottawa (September 19-21) is in honor of the retirement of Michel Racine and is devoted to nonassociative algebras. The speakers are:

Colloquia

The two Algebras Days will be followed respectively preceded by two colloquia for general mathematical audience, one at Carleton University (September 15) given by Claus Ringel (Universität Bielefeld) and one at the Ottawa of Ottawa (September 19) given by Efim Zelmanov (University of California, San Diego).

Registration

There are no registration fees. But the organizers would very much appreciate registration by prospective participants of any one of the events listed above. This will allow us to prepare the appropriate number of coffee and tea cups.

Financial support

Financial support for participating graduate students and postdoctoral fellows is available. Please contact one of the organizers as soon as possible. Erhard Neher (University of Ottawa) and Benjamin Steinberg (Carleton University), indicate the amount requested and ask your supervisor to send a supporting letter to one of the organizers. Deadline for application was August 31.
