Operator algebras is an important and active field of research, and this meeting seeks to both highlight and encourage the major role played by the Canadian operator algebras community. While the operator algebras has its origins rooted in forming a rigorous account of quantum mechanics in the early 20th century, it has since grown tremendously, branching out to form interactions and relations with many areas of mathematics, notably group theory, harmonic analysis, ergodic theory, probability, logic, number theory, geometry, knot theory, and quantum information. Its continued relevance and interest derives largely from these interactions, witnessed for example in the cross-disciplinarity inherent in the recent solutions to the operator algebraic Connes embedding problem (2020) and Kadison-Singer problem (2013).
