The Math Horizons Day is an outreach activity for Grade 11 students in Ontario and Secondaire 4 students in Quebec, which aims to promote the important role played by mathematical science in our society. Many studies show that young students learn a subject much easily if they can appreciate the relevance of that subject. Unfortunately, this seems to be more pronounced in Mathematics as the subject has gained a reputation to be notoriously hard, abstract, and designed for academic purposes only. The goal of this outreach activity is to show a different side of Mathematics for high school students - a practical side that they don't have the chance to explore in their regular curriculum.
