Abstract:
Remote First Nations communities face unique challenges. Many like Fort Severn are small living in harsh cold conditions most of the year. Since there is no road access except for the couple months of winter roads, transporting people and resources is largely by air and at an extremely high cost. This limits access to resources.
Our hope lies in technology. We see its role in improving three critical areas, education, job creation and health care. In this presentation, we will share our successes, challenges and how we envisage deploying technology for the community’s well-being and economic prosperity. We will also like to explore the model of service hubs to reach multiple remote communities in a region.
