Abstract:
Fifty years ago, the 1967 President’s Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice urged the rapid adoption of information technology to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and fairness of the criminal justice system. Today, data, statistical methods, and computing promise the means for improving our understanding of crime and the justice system’s response to crime. I will discuss the data and analytical approaches in several criminological studies including police shootings, drug policy, gangs, and measuring the performance of justice system components.
