We will discuss the results of a multi-year project with National Grid ESO, the electrical transmission operator of GB, where we used a hierarchy of optimization models to improve their planning of outages. We will further describe the future research directions that we think follows from this and similar questions in other regulated industries (joint work with Miguel Anjos, Alemseged Weldeyesus, and Albert Solà Vilalta, funded by National Grid ESO)
