Potential of a Billion Youth
Youth in villages are a key local asset that will shape smart villages. Our planet today has the largest youth cohort in human history. Humankind has never seen this scale of potential and hope for our future. Unfortunately, a large proportion of youth are either unemployed, underemployed or Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). Globally, three out of four youth work in informal jobs. The statistics get pronounced when we move to developing economies and rural environments. Worldwide, the inequality in opportunities and economic progress faced by rural youth results in distress migration to urban environments. Crowded cities, working poor in urban areas, and unproductive labor in villages are some of the consequences of this migration. The Learn and Uplift Foundation (LAUF) uses technology to empower youth, bridge the inequality in economic wellbeing and retain high potential local assets. In this presentation, we will share experiences from our remote First Nations to India and parts of Africa - specifically, the use of Guna Anveshan Tuntr©, and our approach that has helped achieve success in affecting change.
