Selected STEM practical challenges and corresponding educational requirements from an engineer's point of view
As the human technical knowledge and problem-solving capabilities evolved, so did the complexity of engineering problems. The presentation will show some examples of requirements that did not exist just a couple of years ago. Scope of what engineers need to be familiar with has increased dramatically since the projects nowadays usually have multiple stakeholders and wide implications. Educators are facing a real problem in catching up with the developments even in traditional engineering disciplines. The need to stay fluent with fundamentals has not changed. The educators’ challenge is to cover a wide variety of issues needed to create future engineering problem solvers while still maintaining a strong emphasis on fundamentals.
