Using Electric Vehicles in Logistics Activities
The increasing use and importance of integrating electric vehicles in logistics activities has triggered much research from the transportation science community. In this talk we review recent advances in this area. In particular, we present battery charging and discharging patterns that need to be considered, and we discuss the modelling of battery degradation processes. We address the scheduling of charging activities in depots, given realistic energy costs and grid restrictions. Furthermore, considering energy consumption uncertainty, we examine issues related to designing reliable routes. Finally, we elaborate several formulations and algorithms for situations where electric vehicles may deviate from their routes to perform recharging activities.
