On a class of II_1 factors with at most one Cartan subalgebra

Abstract:
I will present examples of II1 factors with one or no Cartan subalgebras. Moreover, I will prove that the normalizer of any amenable subalgebra of a free group factor is again amenable. This is a joint work with Sorin Popa.
