The problem of finding character formulas for Lie superalgebras has been occupying experts in the field for nearly four decades. Even when answers are given, it is not always possible to deduce a dimension or superdimension formula. I shall discuss the progress on this problem including a superdimension formula for the general linear Lie superalgebra. Joint with Chmutov and Karpman.
