Program Outline (under construction)
As the workshop objectives include bringing together experts within domains of food security and relevant statistical methods with the aim of developing prototypical DSSs, knowledge exchange and develop research capacity and networks, the programme is organised with technical sessions, breakout sessions and panel sessions. The proposed programme integrates talks with break out sessions informing each of approximately three pre-specified working groups working towards modelling either of or different aspects of food security or policy decisions. The participants will come together to share and engage with the wider set of workshop participants with the aim of a well networked group of scientists, statisticians and policy/decision-makers from academia, public, private and non-profit sectors.
The specified problems and participants will direct the development of the networks/sub-networks (i.e. graph modular structures) to develop based on domains, dimensions and/or commodities, and scale (e.g. regional, provincial) and location (e.g. Toronto, Manatoulin) for a given food policy to focus breakout sessions. These breakout sessions will be led by technical experts in BNs to support development of DSS (Mazumder), alongside domain experts (Cranfield, Tarasuk Cole) given respective agriculture, environmental, economic, health and CANSSI-Fields Workshop Proposal (3 October 2015).
These breakout sessions will examine the following:
(i) develop prototypes of certain sub-domains of food security using a graph modular approach,
(ii) further utilise recently (on-going) developed UK BNs (Smith, 2014a, 2014b) for food security to be discussed as a template in Canada and its generalizability, and
(iii) identify technical challenges to combine and integrate spatial, temporal, size and systems of uncertainty. These aspects or examples of BNs for food security will be feed into the discussion for the panel sessions and be used to achieve objectives and expected outcomes (1) and draw out areas of development in (2) above.
