Combinatorial Algebra meets Algebraic Combinatorics 2019
Description
The fundamental goal of this meeting is to advance an ongoing dialogue between two distinct research groups. The first consists primarily of algebraic combinatorialists with interests including combinatorial aspects of representation theory and polyhedral combinatorics. The second group centers around commutative algebraists and algebraic geometers with combinatorially flavoured interests such as toric geometry and tropical geometry. Although the two groups use different (and often complementary) techniques, there is an established history of combinatorial
constructions being applied to problems in commutative algebra, and results in combinatorics proven via algebraic-geometric methods. We bring these groups together in order to facilitate further interactions between these vibrant research areas.
This workshop builds on a series of successful meetings including those held at Queen’s University in 2004, 2010 and 2014, the University of Ottawa in 2005, the Fields Institute in 2006 and 2013, Universit´e du Qu´ebec `a Montr´eal (UQAM) in 2007, 2012, and 2017, Dalhousie University in 2008 and 2014, Memorial University in 2009, Lakehead University in 2011, Western University in 2016, and McMaster University in 2018. These annual meetings, which have spawned new research collaborations, continue to grow in popularity and to attract new participants. Based on feedback from graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at the earlier meetings, we aim to maintain the accessibility, as well as quality, of the presentations.
