Workshop on Euler and Navier-Stokes Equations: Regular and Singular Solutions

The Euler and Navier-Stokes equations are among the most important and well-studied PDEs in the sciences. It is an understatement to say that these equations have attracted the attention of many of the best mathematical analysts of the last few generations. Nevertheless, fundamental questions such as the regularity/singularity of solutions, stability/instability of certain flows, and the theory of hydrodynamic turbulence still remain wide open.
The last few years have seen the appearance of incredible works shedding light on old and difficult problems. These works include the resolution of Onsager's conjecture in the theory of hydrodynamics turbulence; breakthrough results about growth of norms in the 2d Euler equations and and inviscid damping for the Couette flow; results pointing toward possible non-uniqueness of Leray-Hopf solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations; signicant work on the question of singularity formation in the Euler equartions; among many others. Despite these advances, many fundamental questions about singularities for the Euler equations and related models (e.g. SQG and Boussinesq equations) still remain wide open.
The workshop will focus on basic issues for future investigations into the singularity formation in fluids equations, and into open questions in hydrodynamic stability. Another goal is to facilitate discussions about suitable mathematical formulations for problems in the theory of hydrodynamic turbulence.
