Abstract:
For a given ideal J in the ring of polynomials, we may wonder if a certain polynomial p lies in J. Once the answer is positive, the next natural step will be to represent p via the generators of J in the most economic way, i.e. using coefficients of the least possible degree. I will be very pleased to discuss this topic with you and to show the hidden geometric complexity behind this question which might seem purely algebraic.
