In the 1980s, Jacquet introduced a relative trace formula to give a new proof of a famous theorem due to Waldspurger on toric periods of automorphic forms on inner forms on GL(2). The so-called Guo-Jacquet trace formula is a higher-dimensional generalization. In this talk, we will present work in progress to establish such a trace formula (joint work with Huajie Li).
