In this talk I will give some background on poset theory. Notions like poset width, poset ideal, the property of planarity of a poset will be discussed. We will also talk about lattices (in particular a few equivalent definitions of distributive lattices, which will be of main interest in the second talk), and define Hibi rings at the end of the talk.
