I will describe the proof of a theorem on elimination of unstable points for differential operators in dimension two. Emphasis will be placed on the new ideas and the difficulties to generalize this result to higher dimensions. If time allows, I will discuss some relations with the R. B. Melrose's b-calculus for partial differential operators.
