Abstract:
In an ambient group, an approximate subgroup is a subset which behaves like a subgroup ''up to a constant error''. Schlichting's Theorem is known for groups and has plenty of applications. In this talk, we will present a result which says that Schlichting's Theorem also holds for approximate subgroups, namely, if there is a uniform family of approximate subgroups commensurable with each other, then there exists an invariant one which is commensurable with all approximate subgroups in this family.
