Singularity formation in the mean curvature flow

Abstract:
In this talk I will discuss recent results on formation of singularities under the mean curvature flow. In particular, I will describe the 'spectral' picture of singularity formation, present the neck pinching results obtained jointly with Zhou Gang and Dan Knopf and sketch their proof.
