The goal of this talk is to show how these three apparently different structures are in fact closely related.

In addition to discussing the work that colleagues and I have carried out I shall also touch on recent developments

by Matui and also by Nekrashevych which I believe can be viewed with profit from the perspective of Boolean inverse monoids.
