Abstract:
Freitag and Mutchnik, together with their favourite AI, have constructed a counter-example to the stable forking conjecture. This conjecture goes back the Algebraic Model Theory year at the Fields Institute in 1996-97. There, PIllay, Kim and your’s truly, tried as hard as we could to construct such an example and in frustration, after 4 months, conjectured that there was none. I will explain the history of the problem, progress made over the years, a partial resolution and say a few words about the example itself.
