The first lecture aims at introducing the Navier-Stokes equations from a historical point of view, and at explaining the main known results and techniques concerning their resolution. The following two lectures will focus on a description of what is known of the behaviour of solutions in large times, or near the blow-up time (assuming such a time exists).
