Although it is now known, by an example of R. Willett, that the weak containment property for groupoids and inverse semigroups is strictly weaker than amenability, we will review several situations where both notions coincide. This is related with a weak notion of exactness. If time permits, we will also discuss some problems related to the notion of exactness for groupoids.
