Scientific Background
Both already existing and future interactions between the Canadian and Brazilian schools Operator Algebras and related topics of Analysis are naturally centred around the overlapping research directions of common interest to both schools. The focal point of these interests has been chosen as the main theme of the workshop.
However, in no way should the workshop be viewed as a mere binational event: it is open to everybody, and every mathematician is welcome to participate. In particular, we will strongly encourage the participation of graduate students from across Canada.
Among the major topics of interest for the workshop will be the interaction between groupoids and C*-algebras. This study is an important part of the research activities of members of the analysis groups of both universities, and this is the pivot point of such directions of current activity as exactness and amenability at infinity in the context of groups, C*-algebras, and groupoids.
Another important topic of the extended workshop will be the dynamics of large groups and its connection with many important questions in operator algebras (e.g. Connes' embedding conjecture), dynamical systems (e.g. sofic groups) and descriptive set theory (e.g. Ramsey theory).
Keynote Speaker
Ruy Exel (UFSC) will deliver a mini-course of two one-hour lectures on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
Abstract submission
We invite the conference participants to submit their abstracts at http://at.yorku.ca/cgi-bin/abstract/submit/cbmj-01
Please note that the 25-minute talks from invited speakers will be included in the program, while (possibly shorter) contributed talks will be considered by the Organizers for inclusion depending on the space available.
The submitted abstracts can be viewed at: http://at.yorku.ca/cgi-bin/abstract/cbmj-01
Funding Application
Please use this form to be considered for funding. Note that funding is limited, and priority will be given to students and postdoctoral fellows who do not have access to other sources of funding.
The deadline for applying for financial support is March 18, 2016. Successful applicants will be notified shortly after this deadline.
