Ottawa-Lyon-Sao Paulo Workshop on Representation Theory
Over the last 10 years, the Universities of Lyon and São Paulo, together with the two universities in Ottawa have forged strong research ties in the area of representation theory. The purpose of the proposed workshop is to strengthen these connections and to widen the scope of research collaborations between our institutions. This workshop builds on the Lyon-Ottawa conference held in Lyon in June 2016, the Lyon- São Paulo meeting held in São Paulo in 2013, as well as numerous reciprocal visits by individual researchers.
Talks will begin the morning of July 3 and end by noon on July 7.
For those unfamiliar with the campus', please find a campus map with reference to the workshop building at the University of Ottawa here and Carleton University here.
Theme of the Workshop
The development of representation theory was motivated in part by its extremely successful applications in physics: from quantum mechanics to the standard model of the elementary particles, to string theory. Today it is a vibrant area of mathematics with many interrelated branches, including Lie algebras, Jordan algebras, Hecke algebras, Hopf algebras, quantum groups, vertex algebras, and categorification. One of the focal topics of the workshop will be the representation theory of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras. This is an area of strength in Lyon, São Paulo and Ottawa. There also has been a great deal of recent activity stemming from the area of extended affine Lie algebras, expanding this theory in multiple directions.
Dinner
There will be a no-host dinner at the East India Company Restaurant at 210 Somerset Ave W on Wednesday July 4th.
