Abstract:
There have been many generalizations of the numerical range. In this talk we will focus on the so-called orbit-closed $C$-numerical range, where $C$ is a parameter consisting of a (generally positive) trace-class operator. We will give an overview of the landscape of numerical ranges, including why this one in particular is appealing. We present some work of the author and Sasmita Patnaik on the close connection between this numerical range and majorization, and the fruitfulness of this perspective.
